Gatekeeper of Solar Technologies

NanoFlex's 20 years of sponsored research programs with the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of Michigan (UM) have resulted in an extensive intellectual property portfolio. Since March of 2016 and August of 2017 NanoFlex has suspended research with USC and UM and shifted its investment from research into commercialization efforts with our first partners SolAero Technologies, the US Army Research Laboratory/Program Executive Office Soldier and commercial partners. As part of the Army program Professor Forrest's research team at UM is conducting important III-V growth research in partnership with NanoFlex and SolAero.

NanoFlex's sponsored research programs with the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan have resulted in an intellectual property portfolio consisting of more than 700 issued or pending patents worldwide and we are constantly looking to extend and strengthen our intellectual property portfolio. NanoFlex is now moving out of the basic research phase and into commercialization of its technologies with partners as well as its own product development, manufacturing, and marketing resources.

Senior Product/Process Engineer

NanoFlex Power Corporation is an early stage startup company commercializing revolutionary new solar cell technologies developed with the University of Michigan Optoelectronics Component and Materials Group for a variety of applications. NanoFlex is staffing its first product development group, located in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. We seek a diligent, experienced electrical engineering professional with a history of successful product and process development in Organic Photovoltaics (OPV), semiconductor or advanced material technology.

This individual will be engaged in OPV prototype product and process development as NanoFlex moves from research to product development and commercialization of its first products for use in IoT sensors, and thin film solar in a variety of applications inclusive of off grid portable, building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), automotive, consumer, and other applications.

Reporting to the Director of OPV Development, the Senior Product/Process Engineer will be responsible for driving product and process engineering as NanoFlex develops first prototypes and moves through a stage gate product development process. As one of the first members of the NanoFlex product engineering team, the Senior Product/Process Engineer must have the capability to set up initial engineering documentation systems inclusive of product design and quality specifications in conformance with a total quality management system like ISO 9001 or similar process. All product development initiatives must be accomplished within time and budget constraints while demonstrating innovative solutions.

his position is a full time NanoFlex employee position with salary, benefits, and stock option program.

The ideal candidate will have a proven record that fulfills the majority of these requirements:

  • MSE in EE or Materials Science (or equivalent)
  • 2 years of OPV solar cell module integration, other solar technology integration, or semiconductor product design and/or microelectronics fabrication experience. Preferred experience with:
    • Vacuum processing of organic solar cells
    • Improving yield of thin film semiconductor devices
    • Thin film solar cell and module design
    • Purification of organic materials
    • Encapsulation of thin film devices
    • J-V characterization
    • Photospectrometry and ellipsometry (thickness and refractive index fitting)
    • Internal and external quantum efficiency measurements
  • Record of achieving objectives and successful project completion within budget & time frame
  • Demonstrated peripheral vision; working on specific projects, but with wider applications in mind
  • Literate, communicative, customer-friendly, team oriented and flexible

An objectives-driven, hands-on Senior Engineer, the chosen candidate will be a combination of detail-oriented, time- and cost-conscious engineer, but with a strong desire to innovate and drive major solar industry change with paradigm shifting new solar products.  He or she will demonstrate an exceptional level of team building and project management skills, and the intuition to recognize and direct the varying elements of project and personnel demands that drive a successful technology company forward.  Sensitive to the developments and nuances that define the sectors the company serves, the Senior Product Engineer will be a student of current industry technology trends, ensuring that the company maintains its technology leadership position.
